Safe, transparent, and accountable artificial intelligence will be a central focus of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, as outlined by the IndiaAI Mission. The Summit is being organised under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Secretary MeitY S. Krishnan highlighted growing international concerns around AI governance, noting the risks of unchecked concentration and misuse. He said India’s approach emphasises AI as a public-good enabler, supported by governance frameworks that are transparent, technology-driven, and adaptable across regions.
One of the seven thematic Chakras of the Summit Safe and Trusted AI will focus on developing governance models that balance innovation with accountability. Other Chakras include Inclusion for Social Empowerment, Democratising AI Resources, and Resilience, Innovation and Efficiency, which promotes energy-efficient and frugal AI solutions.
The Summit’s themes have emerged from extensive consultations, including citizen inputs via MyGov and discussions with over 500 stakeholders globally. Pre-summit engagements have already been held in cities such as Paris, Tokyo, New York, and Oslo.
Officials said the Sutra–Chakra framework will ensure the Summit delivers measurable outcomes rather than remaining aspirational, reinforcing India’s role in shaping responsible global AI norms.
