New Relic, the Intelligent Observability Company, will hold New Relic Now, the summer edition of its virtual event series that is streaming globally. The company will share key insights from its recent 2026 State of AI Coding report and spotlight the general availability (GA) of advancements to its platform that address the operational challenges of the AI-driven software development era. Speakers from OpenAI, LaunchDarkly, and New Relic will share actionable best practices and real-world use cases for optimising AI performance to ensure seamless user experiences and business growth.
New Relic recently commissioned a survey of technology leaders at upper mid-market and enterprise companies who use generative and agentic AI in software engineering. The data reveals that while 94 per cent of leaders rated AI-generated code as higher quality at review time, 78 per cent report more incidents once it ships. Despite these prevalent issues, enterprises are placing a blind trust in AI, as 62 per cent of respondents ship AI-generated code to production without line-by-line manual verification. This misplaced trust accumulates what New Relic terms "agent debt"—a phenomenon where unverified deployment leads to downstream operational issues.
"Agent debt is the hidden operational tax of the agentic era and a threat to enterprise uptime," said New Relic Chief Product Officer Brian Emerson. "The promised productivity gains of AI coding assistants are a mirage if they simply shift the bottleneck from developers writing code to SREs fixing it. Today we are sharing best practices, use cases and demos of solutions to erase agent debt with AI observability, the only way to bridge the gap between AI-assisted development and production stability.”
For technology leaders, the emergence of agent debt rewrites the ROI equation of enterprise AI. Hyper-accelerated development is meaningless if efficiency gains are wiped out by costly production outages and SREs acting as AI code janitors. Realising the true value of AI requires shifting from blind adoption to governed acceleration, and mandating observability as a core prerequisite. By fusing deep system telemetry with historical operational data, New Relic acts as a foundational intelligence layer, giving human SREs critical oversight while feeding AI tools the precise context needed to reduce agent debt.
To aid individual developers and small teams, New Relic recently announced a new open source feature designed specifically for AI-assisted lifecycles, now called New Relic Preflight and available today. Preflight provides real-time and historical observability for AI coding agents. See current and historical token spend, call volumes, cost forecasts, and tool-selection quality, all updating as you work. Fully replayable sessions and a team dashboard, with an on-ramp to the New Relic platform. This extends production-grade monitoring directly into the IDE, transforming fragmented, unmonitored AI usage into a highly governed, optimised, and auditable enterprise advantage. We enable visibility and guardrails to let AI run with confidence, even as a single dev or small team.
