The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), through the IndiaAI Mission, outlined India’s vision for inclusive and democratic artificial intelligence at a media briefing in New Delhi ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The briefing was chaired by S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, along with senior officials from IndiaAI, NIC, Digital India Corporation, CERT-In, NeGD, and the India Semiconductor Mission.
Addressing the media, Krishnan stressed the need to prevent AI from becoming concentrated in a handful of geographies and corporations. He emphasised that AI must function as a horizontal, enabling technology accessible to countries worldwide, with equitable access to compute, data, and models. Such access, he said, would allow nations to develop context-specific AI solutions across healthcare, agriculture, governance, education, and manufacturing.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026 is structured around three guiding Sutras People, Planet, and Progress, operationalised through seven thematic Chakras, or working groups. These range from Human Capital and Safe & Trusted AI to Democratising AI Resources and AI for Economic Growth and Social Good.
The Summit is supported by extensive consultations, including public inputs via MyGov and global brainstorming sessions across major international cities, positioning India as a key convenor of global AI dialogue.
