The opening day of SEMICON India 2026 in New Delhi saw a series of industry partnerships and announcements aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem, including initiatives focused on artificial intelligence (AI), chip design and workforce development.
Sixteen MoU exchanges and announcements were made during the Day 1 press briefing at Yashobhoomi, organised by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The event is being held from September 17–19 under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem”, bringing together stakeholders across semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging, materials, design and technology development.
A key AI-related development was the partnership between Intel India and the New Age Makers’ Institute of Technology (NAMTECH) to develop a future-ready workforce in AI and semiconductor technologies. The India Semiconductor Mission and Intel India also launched an Introduction to Semiconductors course as part of efforts to expand semiconductor knowledge and skills.
The event also highlighted efforts to broaden access to chip design capabilities. The government announced the establishment of six ChipIN Regional Centres, aimed at extending chip design infrastructure beyond established technology hubs and supporting wider participation in semiconductor design.
Tata Electronics featured prominently in the Day 1 announcements, with agreements covering wafer manufacturing, assembly and testing, advanced packaging, semiconductor materials, photoresists and chemicals, supplier infrastructure and talent development.
The company signed an agreement with Nexperia covering wafer manufacturing, assembly and test, technology collaboration and innovation. Other agreements include partnerships with L&T Semiconductor Technologies, Ascendas First Space, Fujifilm Corporation, JSR Corporation and BESI Singapore.
Tata Electronics also signed an MoU with the Semiconductor Laboratory covering semiconductor design services, process technology, supply chain localisation and talent development. A separate partnership with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, L&T EduTech and Jacobs Solutions will focus on developing skills in semiconductor facility engineering and infrastructure systems.
The opening day also marked the exchange of the first batch of commercial devices between Suchi Semicon and eInfochips.
Kaynes Semicon signed agreements with OptoML India and GridCrest Technologies for advanced packaging and System-on-Module solutions, while another agreement with GridCrest will explore semiconductor solutions for smart meters through an Indian supply chain.
Sensesemi Technologies and GridCrest also announced a partnership focused on smart metering solutions.
SEMICON India 2026 is bringing together the semiconductor ecosystem across manufacturing, design, packaging, materials, equipment, AI, high-performance computing and other technology areas. The event features more than 600 exhibitors and participants from across the global semiconductor industry.
