Thales has launched Luna 8, a next-generation hardware security module (HSM) designed to help organisations protect sensitive data, applications and digital identities against emerging quantum computing threats while supporting growing AI workloads.
The launch comes as organisations increasingly prepare for the transition to post-quantum cryptography (PQC). According to the 2026 Thales Data Threat Report, Harvest Now, Decrypt Later (HNDL) attacks were identified as the top quantum-related risk, with 61 per cent of organisations in India and 59 per cent globally reporting that they are prototyping and evaluating PQC algorithms.
Powered by a Thales-designed cryptographic processor, Luna 8 is designed to provide high-performance key storage, protection and management while supporting both existing and emerging cryptographic algorithms. The platform is aimed at helping enterprises maintain cryptographic agility as security requirements evolve.

The HSM is designed to address security requirements arising from the convergence of AI, cloud computing, digital identities and quantum technologies. Its scalability and flexibility are intended to support multiple applications and secure environments while enabling organisations to adapt cryptographic infrastructure as requirements change.
The launch is particularly relevant for India as the country advances its National Quantum Mission, increasing the need for quantum-safe technologies across government and enterprise infrastructure.
Luna 8 also incorporates capabilities aimed at simplifying cryptographic operations and supporting automation and high availability. Thales said the platform is designed to help organisations move from experimentation with post-quantum algorithms towards broader deployment while maintaining control over cryptographic keys and security policies.
