Anthropic announced plans to open a new office in Seoul, South Korea, in early 2026, marking a significant step in the company’s global expansion across the Asia Pacific region. The Seoul office follows recent openings in Tokyo and Bengaluru, reflecting Anthropic’s strong regional momentum, with run rate revenue in Asia Pacific growing more than tenfold over the past year.
The expansion aligns with South Korea’s ambition to become one of the world’s top three hubs of artificial intelligence development. Senior Anthropic leaders will visit Seoul next week to meet with customers, partners and policymakers, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting Korea’s ambitious AI vision.
Korean users have become some of the most active Claude users worldwide, ranking within the top five in both total and per capita usage according to Anthropic’s Economic Index. More than a quarter of the Claude Code user base now comes from Asia Pacific, with Korea showing remarkable growth. The number of active weekly Claude Code users has increased sixfold in just four months. The local developer community is one of the strongest globally, with a Korean software engineer currently ranked as the world’s top Claude Code user, demonstrating the depth of technical talent and early adoption in the market.
“Korea is at the forefront of AI innovation in Asia and we have already seen strong adoption of Claude in the region,” said Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic. “We built Claude to deliver both frontier capabilities and the safeguards needed for responsible deployment, and our partnerships in Korea will show what is possible when advanced AI meets Korea’s world class technical ecosystem and forward-thinking institutions.”
Korean companies are not merely adopting AI. They are defining how industries worldwide use it. Law&Company uses Claude to power its AI legal assistant, nearly doubling lawyer efficiency while maintaining the accuracy required in legal work. SK Telecom, Korea’s largest telecommunications provider, has chosen Claude to build a custom AI customer service model that is now serving as a blueprint for the global telecom sector. With world class technology companies, a thriving start-up scene and progressive frameworks for AI ethics and safety, Korea represents a central focus in Anthropic’s mission to advance responsible AI innovation. The number of large business accounts in Asia Pacific, representing customers generating over 100,000 US dollars in annual run rate revenue, has grown eightfold over the past year.
“Korean businesses are already some of the most sophisticated users of Claude, particularly for complex coding and enterprise applications,” said Paul Smith, Chief Commercial Officer at Anthropic. “Having a local presence allows us to work closely with these enterprises and start-ups, offering the dedicated support and tailored solutions they need.”
Anthropic’s work in Korea will align with the government’s national strategy to position the country as a global leader in AI. The company aims to collaborate with government agencies, research institutions and industry partners to advance safe and responsible AI deployment across key sectors including telecommunications, legal technology, finance and digital services.
The new Seoul office will house a dedicated local team focused on engineering, commercial partnerships and policy engagement, supporting Korea’s unique technological and business landscape as Anthropic continues its mission to make frontier AI systems reliable, interpretable and safe.
