Amazon has announced the expansion of its AI-powered health assistant, Health AI, to customers across the United States through Amazon.com and the Amazon mobile app, marking a broader push to simplify access to healthcare services.
The AI tool, initially launched earlier this year for members of One Medical within the One Medical app, is designed to help users better understand their health information, interpret medical records and connect with licensed healthcare professionals when needed.
The company said the expansion aims to address common challenges faced by patients navigating the healthcare system, including long appointment wait times, fragmented digital systems and difficulties understanding medical information. According to the American Academy of Physician Associates, nearly two-thirds of Americans report feeling overwhelmed by the healthcare system and wish their doctors had more time to understand their concerns.
Health AI functions as a personalised health assistant capable of answering general health questions as well as providing tailored guidance when users grant permission to access their medical information. With access to health records, the system can explain laboratory results, diagnoses and treatment information while offering more personalised responses to questions about symptoms and medications.
The platform also integrates with healthcare services. Users can connect directly with One Medical providers through messaging, video consultations or in-person appointments. Health AI can also help manage prescription renewals through Amazon Pharmacy or another pharmacy chosen by the user.
In addition, the tool can suggest relevant health-related products available on Amazon when requested by users.
The development of Health AI is driven by collaboration between Andrew Diamond, a primary care physician with nearly two decades of clinical experience, and Prakash Bulusu, a technology executive focused on building large-scale digital systems. The pair said their goal is to simplify healthcare by combining personalised medical insights with easy access to professional care.
Amazon said customers can begin signing up for the service through the Amazon Health page, with the rollout starting immediately and expanding gradually over the coming weeks. The company aims to make Health AI available to all U.S. customers in the near future as part of its broader effort to integrate digital tools into everyday healthcare access.
