Hippocratic AI has announced the immediate availability of its climate-responsive voice AI agents for health systems and payers across the US, enabling healthcare organisations to conduct rapid outreach to vulnerable patients during heatwaves, wildfire smoke events, extreme cold and other weather-related emergencies.
The launch comes as healthcare providers face increasing pressure to proactively support high-risk populations during extreme weather events. The company said its rapid-response resilience agents build on deployments by healthcare organisations, including EmblemHealth, which has used AI-powered voice outreach to prepare and support vulnerable members during heat and poor air quality events.
During a recent heatwave, EmblemHealth's bilingual voice AI agent, Rachel, reached more than 16,000 members within 24 hours. According to Hippocratic AI, the agent identified that approximately 10 per cent of those contacted required additional support and achieved a member satisfaction score of 9.02 out of 10.
The voice AI agent conducted clinical heat-stroke assessments, provided guidance and helped route vulnerable members to local cooling centres. It also identified urgent health concerns requiring further intervention.
Following the initial programme, EmblemHealth expanded the initiative to more than 50,000 heat-related outreach calls ahead of the July 4 weekend heat dome in New York City. The organisation also conducted approximately 15,000 cooling-benefit outreaches during April and May and has used AI-powered calls to support vulnerable members affected by poor air quality associated with Canadian wildfires.
Hippocratic AI's agents are designed to conduct voice-based interactions with patients, providing health education, assessing risks and escalating cases when individuals may require additional support.
During extreme heat, the agents can check on vulnerable patients, provide information on heat-related health risks, assist with transportation to cooling centres and identify situations requiring escalation.
The technology can also be deployed in response to other environmental and seasonal risks, including extreme cold, wildfire smoke and infectious disease surges.
