xAI has announced the launch of an early beta version of Grok Build, a new coding agent and command-line interface (CLI) designed to support professional software engineering and advanced coding workflows. The tool is initially being rolled out to SuperGrok Heavy subscribers as part of an early access programme aimed at gathering developer feedback to further refine the platform.
Grok Build is positioned as an AI-powered coding assistant capable of handling complex software development tasks through structured planning and multi-agent execution. One of its core features is a “plan mode,” which allows developers to generate, review, edit, or completely rewrite execution plans before the coding process begins. Once approved, all modifications are displayed as clean code diffs to improve transparency and workflow management.
According to xAI, Grok Build integrates seamlessly with existing developer environments and workflows. The platform supports AGENTS.md files, plugins, hooks, skills, and MCP servers out of the box, enabling the coding agent to quickly adapt to repository-specific conventions and development practices.
For large-scale engineering tasks, Grok Build can delegate assignments to specialised subagents that operate in parallel, significantly improving task execution efficiency. The company added that the platform also supports advanced worktree integrations, allowing developers to launch subagents within separate worktrees for better project organisation and parallel development.
The CLI additionally features a headless mode (-p), enabling developers to run coding agents inside scripts, automation pipelines, and enterprise workflows. Grok Build also offers full ACP support, allowing organisations and developers to build custom bots and agent orchestration applications on top of the platform.
The launch reflects the growing competition in AI-assisted software development, as technology companies continue introducing increasingly autonomous coding agents for enterprise and developer ecosystems.
