LinkedIn has announced a series of updates to its content ranking systems, introducing advanced AI-driven technologies designed to deliver more relevant posts while promoting authentic professional conversations on the platform.
The professional networking platform is upgrading its Feed using larger sequence models known as Generative Recommenders, enhanced with large language models (LLMs). These systems are designed to better interpret the meaning and context of posts and track how users’ professional interests evolve.
According to LinkedIn, the upgraded ranking models analyse signals that users choose to share, such as industry, skills, work experience, and location, along with engagement patterns. This enables the platform to recommend posts that align more closely with individual interests, including content from professionals outside a user’s immediate network.
Alongside improvements in content recommendations, LinkedIn is strengthening efforts to limit inauthentic engagement on the platform. The company said it is taking action against behaviours such as automated comments, engagement pods, and the use of unauthorised third-party tools designed to artificially boost interactions.
The move aims to ensure that discussions on the platform reflect genuine professional perspectives rather than automated or coordinated engagement tactics.
LinkedIn is also enhancing its systems to detect and reduce the visibility of low-value or repetitive content. This includes posts designed primarily to drive engagement, such as prompts encouraging users to comment simply to agree, as well as videos that do not match the accompanying text.
Instead, the platform said it intends to prioritise posts that provide meaningful insights, practical advice, and thoughtful professional perspectives.
To improve the experience for new members, LinkedIn is testing a new Interest Picker feature during account sign-up. The tool allows users to select topics such as leadership, career growth, and job search skills, enabling the platform to personalise the Feed from the outset.
Previously, LinkedIn relied heavily on signals such as profile completeness and user engagement to tailor recommendations signals that new members typically have not yet generated.
The company said these updates are part of its broader effort to make the platform a trusted space for professional dialogue. The new Feed features are already being rolled out and will continue to evolve as LinkedIn tests and refines the technology.
